ANTIQUE CARVED FUNERARY PANEL - DAYAK - BORNEO

DESCRIPTION: This impressive item is a Dayak panel, serving as the front part (pediment) of a coffin or ossuary. Triangular in shape, it features a carved face in the central portion, with floral motifs sculpted at the two ends of the panel. However, the left end is missing. The panel, made of extremely hard and heavy wood, likely ironwood, exhibits parts eroded by the elements. Notably, two square holes on either side were designed for the insertion of planks to support the structure.
