Several years ago, I personally collected this rooftop piece from the central highlands of West Timor, within the territory of the Atoni tribes. This rooftop carving once served a guardian apotropaic function, believed to have warded off evil spirits. It featured two ancestor figures seated on the top section.
One remarkable feature to note is the beautiful patina that has developed on this piece over the years, resulting from both use and exposure to the elements. This patina enhances its aesthetic charm and historical character.

The rooftop piece boasts an original design, showcasing two ancestor figures seated in a crouched position at opposite edges of the circular rooftop. They face outward, with their backs to each other, offering a unique and meaningful representation. Additionally, two crocodiles are intricately incorporated into the design, in bas-relief along the lower section of the statue.

The last pictures in the listing provide a glimpse into the fascinating process of obtaining this artifact. They show the owner of the traditional Atoni hut, who climbed onto the roof to retrieve the piece for me. This direct acquisition from the heart of the central highlands of West Timor, Indonesia, adds to the authenticity and cultural significance of this remarkable artifact.
